Arrows – What a win!!

Arrows 19 and under and Open teams both put on a great display of Netball on Friday night to defeat OHA in a complete whitewash.

Arrows 19’s were confident going into their match against OHA  even though they only had 7 fit players. Adelle Salter  was on the injury list  and our two State team players in Ellie Fleming and Alanna Cooper  were tired and sore after their hectic week of Netball at the Nationals.

It was a great team effort and they keep the pressure on OHA the whole game.

First quarter Arrows scored 16 goals – 8, followed by 24 – 4, 19 – 5 and 18 – 6 .

The final score for the Arrows was 77 – 23. Felicity George was voted Player of the Match after a scintillating game at wing attack, her passing into the circle was top notch and her defensive pressure through the centre court was impressive also.

Arrows Open were happy to have Sophie Gunn in the starting seven this week, and she did not disappoint with a great display of accuracy in goals shooting 29 from 31 attempts. Kate Prins fed the ball well and chimed in with 2 from 3. Arrows led 31 – 3 at the first break. After shooting another 15 goals straight Sophie left the court during the second quarter after sustaining an injury.

Even without Sophie Arrows continued to build their lead and went into the main break with a commanding 54 – 9 lead.

Enter Hayley Sansom at Goal Shooter scoring 28 from 32 in the second half, she combined well with Natasha Shirley 10 from 10 in the third quarter and Kate Prins with 12 from 18 in the last quarter.

The Gough Sisters AJ and Zoe made it very difficult for OHA shooters to settle into their game and AJ’s  fast footwork and quick hands made many intercepts look easy. Zoe wasn’t far behind her with great rebounds and constant pressure over the ball.

The centre court players of Emily Sharp, Ashlee Campbell and Amy Rainbird also dominated their positions and contributed to the great win, it was indeed a great team effort.

Player of the Match was very difficult to judge but AJ Gough got the vote for her dominate performance in defence.

The final score being Arrows 104 – 15.
